SIMPSON, SUHL
AN HISTORIC 10.6mm (GERMAN COMMISSION) DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER , serial no. 164, COMPLETE WITH HOLSTER,
attributed to the East African Kaiserliche Schutztruppe of Paul Emil von Lettow-Vorbeck circa 1914, with two-stage 4 1/2in. barrel, solid frame marked 'V.C.S & C.G.H. SUHL', side safe, 'church window' fluted cylinder, special double-action conversion, spurred hammer and chequered walnut bag-shaped butt, the back-strap marked 'K.S. 216' complete with its issued service leather holster marked 'LOH SOHNE BERLIN' with pouch on the front for ammunition

Other Notes: Paul Emil von Lettow-Vorbeck (20th March 1870 to 9th March 1964), nicknamed affectionately as the Lion of Africa or in German 'Löwe von Afrika', was a general in the Prussian Army and the commander of its forces in the German East Africa campaign. For four years, with a force that never exceeded about 14,000 men (3,000 Germans and 11,000 Africans), he held in check a much larger force of 300,000 British, Belgian, and Portuguese troops. Essentially undefeated in the field, Lettow-Vorbeck was the only German commander to successfully invade imperial British soil during the First World War. His exploits in the campaign have been described by Edwin Palmer Hoyt "as the greatest single guerrilla operation in history, and the most successful."
